Penguins of October – TCP Release

I couldn’t let October pass without playing with the fun penguins from The Cats Pajamas October release!  My first card features the Happy Pumpkin Day digital stamp.  I made this card for this week’s Ways to Use It Challenge to use buttons. That challenge gave me just right idea to put my project over the top.  I little (but giant for the penguin) button on his scarf.  Doesn’t he looks so stylish?  I don’t know about you, but fall means plaid to me, and I had an idea to print out the buffalo check pattern from the Black & White Spring Digi Papers.  I never knew I needed digital paper until these came out.  I love the printer-friendly black and white and I love adding a little something to them.  This time, I used my Copic markers to make a colorful fall plaid.  You know a Jen card is never finished without a little bit of sparkle.  I couldn’t find a place to add Stickles to this one, so I went with Wink of Stella on the jack o’lantern face, the scarf, and the small pumpkin.

For my second card, I wanted to play with the Gobble It Up Digistamps.  This time, I checked the Free for All Challenge for inspiration–use dies.  I did use some retired dies on my card, but to go with the cutting theme, I chose to try out the Triple Side Step Cutable.

What a fun and easy to use cut file.  I love that it not only cuts the card base, but also cuts the matting pieces!  It was so easy, I made two!  I used my ScanNCut to cut two bases, then I cut the other pieces with two different papers, so I could mix and match.  I stuck with the same marker color palette, because turquoise just looks so good with orange.  You’ll notice I also couldn’t stop the plaid–adding some simple lines to give the tablecloth some character.  The sparkle on this card ended up on the leaves.

I hope you like what I’ve done with these fall penguins and I hope you’ll get a chance to play along with them too!

Stampers Delights October Spotlight

Well, friends, it’s October already.  Time for Halloween!  My kids remind me of that nearly every day.  I’m sharing two Stampers Delights cards today.  We are spotlighting Fall/Halloween images this month.  This card uses the Kawaii – Scary Cake Frankie digital stamp.

So fun!  I really enjoyed coloring this image with my Copics and chose to simply feature it on a clean and simple card with a bit of stenciling behind it.

My second card features another sweet Kawaii image – Flying Witch digital stamp.  Isn’t she so fun?

I noticed that she had striped leggings on so I decided that those must be ruby slippers and colored her up to look like the witch that Dorothy’s house fell on.

The background of this card is a mixture of random bits from my backgrounds drawer.  Honestly, these bits are years in the making.  The main panel is a shaving cream background done with black reinker.  One day I was experimenting with making my own texture paste and added some of that to that shaving cream background through a fun stencil.  I thought it would make a cool Halloween background and I sponged some purple ink on the edges.  Then I found this die cut circle that had been splattered with white paint and thought that would give kind of a cool moon vibe.  I may have gotten a bit carried away with the Stickles in the end.  I can’t really help myself.

Here I Am – Ways to Use It Challenge #918

For this week’s Ways to Use It Challenge, Polly challenged us to be inspired by a fairy tale. “Fairy tale” is a keyword that I use in my Color My Life stamps database, so that was easy. But I didn’t want a princess because I needed a card for my boss for Boss’s Day. Although, I have a new boss as of next week. This is one last card from the team before we break up. The entire sentiment is “Every once in a while someone amazing comes into your life.  And here we are.  You’re welcome.”

As is my usual routine, I made a second card.  But the second one said this:

As always, if you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the images above and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

I started with the frog prince and felt like pairing him with a fun background from my background drawer. So then I had the card almost all finished with the background stuck down and the sentiment popped up and couldn’t figure out how to ground the frog. That’s when I turned and saw these two leafy branches left over from my last card. I tucked them in behind him and voila! I love it when a plan comes together.

MWAHH! – TCP October Release

It’s October and time for a new release from The Cat’s Pajamas!  And this release includes one of my all-time favorite Halloween sets.  I was so happy to use the Mwahh Digital Stamp set for my card this month.  And what a great way to showcase such a fun image, but this Slimline Diorama card featured in yesterday’s Technique Lovers Challenge.  Fortunately, it was a really easy fold to do, as I am notoriously fun-fold-challenged.  And the bats from the Witch Please Digistamp/SVG were the perfect cute embellishment for the card.

You know this digital stamp set is a fun duo of vampire and zombie.  Here is a card that I made last year which featured the zombie image:

You’ll notice they both have my favorite moon technique which is sponging ink through a splatter stencil to look like the craters.  Check out last year’s blog post to find the fun inside sentiment of that card.

Sweater Weather – TCP September Release

I couldn’t let September pass by without showcasing this sweet knitting bunny.  It’s sweater weather, you guys!  The Ugly Sweater Season Digital Stamp Set is just so cute and so versatile.  Naturally, my first instinct was to make an “Ugyly Sweater Season” Christmas card. And what better way to feature different patterns of paper in honor of ugly sweater season than to make a Pop Up Slider Card.  This card was so easy to make with the Cutable and the video tutorial!

I printed the sentiment on the paper that I wanted to use for the tag and cut each individual piece of the card with different patterns.  Assembly was very quick and easy and adding the bunny was fun to do.  I thought he could use a couple of tacky Christmas trees behind him, and then I realized that an ugly sweater simply had to be paper-pieced.

But the best thing about this set?  It doesn’t have to be Christmas.  So I made a second card!

I thought the Chevron Cutable made the best background for it.  Don’t you?  I had so much fun playing today.  I hope you’ll find some time to play with the September release too!

C-I-E-I-O – Ways to Use It Challenge #915

The Ways to Use It Challenge is “Down on the Farm”.  I had the perfect joke ready for it!

I used SC256 for my sketch, because I thought it would be good for the rolling hills and the farmer and his cow.

It’s close, but not quite right.  I don’t care.  The sketch inspired me and that’s what it’s all about, right? I had this pack of patterned paper out from my card from yesterday and I liked the patterns for the field and sky. This is a very Jen card and I love it!

Women’s Magazines – Clean and Simple Challenge #708

This week’s CAS challenge is best friends. I decided to make this card inspired by sleepovers with my best friends when we were in our teens. I think it was Seventeen magazine that we would read. Taking the quizzes and following the makeup tutorials. Here is the whole sentiment:

It reminded me of those nights with my friends and I thought they would get a kick out of this card.

I’ve also combined this challenge with the Featured Stamper challenge spotlighting Carol Dee. Carol’s gallery was so fun to browse. It was like looking through my digital stamp collection. I saw a lot of cute images that I forgot that I had. But I went with this card for my inspiration.

Stampers Delights September Spotlight – Week 1

It’s September and all this month Stampers Delights is spotlighting Fall/Halloween images!  This card uses the Kawaii – So Corny digital stamp.

I’m pretty much obsessed with foiling lately, so I decided I wanted to make a foiled background of these fun candy corns.  I used my laser printer to print out a bunch of random candy corns to make the background.  Then I ran it through my laminator with gold foil and colored with Copics.  I love the look of the foil on the candy corn.  Here is another photo to see the metallic gold shine.

This week’s Sketch Challenge helped me with the card design.

Here are the outside and inside sentiments of my card.  As always, if you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

Christmas in August – TCP Release

It’s still August and I’m still making Christmas cards.  This August TCP release is just so full of fun!  There are so many options that I just couldn’t stop playing!

For this card I wanted to use the Christmas Cookies digi stamps and the ideas just kept coming.  They pair so well with the Christmas Cutouts and Ornaments SVGs.  First I had the idea to print the tree “cookie” digi and cut that out using the tree SVG.  That paired beautifully, by the way, with the Woodgrain Coverplate.  I love the look of that!

But then I thought about how fun it would be to print out that Santa beard “cookie” digi in light gray on white and cut that out with the beard SVG.  I paired that with and Every Day Tag printed with one of the Digital Paper designs.

But I still had more ideas in me.  What if I printed the ornament “cookie” digi with my laser printer and foiled it.  You know I can’t go too many days without foiling, or I suffer from foiling withdrawal.  So I cut that out with one of the Ornaments SVGs.  Doesn’t it look so fabulous in that metallic gold?

There are so many more options with this awesome August release!  What kind of ideas do you have?  We’d love to see them!

Couldn’t Turn It Down – Color Challenge #910

Karen is our hostess for this week’s Color Challenge and she has chosen Tahitian Tide, Parakeet Party, and Blushing Bride for our colors. And for dessert–music.

Well, I have several music related jokes waiting to be featured on my cards. This was an easy one, because I have this fun boombox stamp. I used my gelli plate to make a background using my best approximations of the colors (I used Tattered Rose, Twisted Citron, and Mermaid Lagoon). I cut and flipped the pieces to give it some added interest and finished off with some music background stamps.

As always, if you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

That’s not the only joke I used so far this week.  My card for this week’s Featured Stamper Challenge also cracked me up.

This week’s Featured Stamper is Craftea19. Her gallery is very fun and I really enjoyed browsing it. This card inspired me because this Snoopy image is one of my favorites and Sabrina was kind enough to stamp off a few for me. I had one left. I also had this other cute car image that either Heather or Joanne sent to me. I can’t remember!

This sentiment describes me perfectly. I created the sentiment using Groundnut font that I downloaded from fontspace.com.  As always, if you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

And here’s the inside:

Always fun for a birthday card.
