Castle Hill Lighthouse – Watercolor Wednesday #65

It’s Watercolor Wednesday!  And those three words are not as scary as they were a year ago.  I actually had a lot of fun with this particular challenge.  Loose sketching and painting has always been my thing.  I’ve always been the type to slap the paint on and hope for the best.  The video tutorial linked in the challenge had us sketching out a lighthouse scene with Sharpie and then coloring with simple watercolor washes.  I wanted to paint a Rhode Island lighthouse, because this card s going to this week’s Tea Party recipient, Tom, who is a former coworker of mine.  One of my other coworkers asked if I would make a card for her to send, and I thought a Rhode Island lighthouse would be great to remind him how much support he has over here in Southern New England.  Here is the reference photo that I used of Castle Hill Lighthouse in Newport, RI.  It’s about an hour from my house.

As usual, I made two cards this morning, using my Spectrum Aqua markers scribbled on my Waffle Flower Crafts Water Media Mat.  I cut both papers to small squares and taped them down to some scrap paper.

I’ve used two different papers for my watercolor today.  I won several different kinds of Hahnemuhle paper from an Instagram giveaway hosted by Sandra at lifeimitatesdoodles.  Go follow her page–her work is amazing! I took a photo of each painting on top of each paper pad, so I could look back for future reference.

The Bamboo paper has more of a hotpress texture to it.  I like them both for different purposes, but today I found I had more luck with the Agave paper.  Here is the card that I made with the Bamboo paper:

Dare to Get Dirty 2021

I’m a little late in posting about Dare to Get Dirty although there is still time to play.  I think there are 50 challenges in all, so you can definitely find some challenges that suit you.  They were all published over the last week, but we still have one more full week to finish our cards and post to the gallery.  Did I mention there are prizes?  What are you waiting for?

You must be a Fan Club member to play along – Click here for the details on how to join!

Let’s talk a bit about my challenge, which you can find here if you are already a fan club member.  I can’t give you the details of my challenge here, but I can tell you all about how I made my card.  It started with a base of my favorite scraps.  The scraps that I use to mop up the ink after I watercolor.  I have a stack right next to me on my table at all times.  They are incredibly versatile.

I use them for backgrounds, for die cuts, all kinds of things.  This time I chose blues and browns for an ocean background and ocean floor.  With this funky background and those fabulous Verve flowers, I chose these Rubbernecker fish that have so much character.

This card was so much fun to make and the challenge gallery is very fun to browse through.  My favorite thing about DTGD Challenges, and all challenges really, is that they often inspire me to make something that I never would have thought of without the challenge prompt.  I’ve been busy lately!  Here are the rest of my Dare to Get Dirty cards so far….

I hope I can finish them all this week and I hope I’ll see you in the gallery!

Stampers Delights August Release – Too Cute to Spook

Today I’m sharing the Stampers Delights Chibi August release.  You can find the entire August release here.  This card uses the Chibi – Too Cute to Spook digital stamp.  As always this digital image comes in jpeg and png formats AND, this is also available as a clear stamp!

I printed out the digital version with some leaves and cut them out with my ScanNCut.  She was very fun to color with my Copics.

To keep the falling leave theme going, I applied some Nuvo Expanding Mousse in a couple of different colors to kraft paper through my favorite leaf motif stencil from STAMPlorations.  I don’t like when summer comes to an end, but autumn sure is a beautiful season isn’t it?

Stampers Delights August Release – Frankie Stein

I’m so excited to have been invited to stay on the  Stampers Delights  Design Team.  And I’m really excited to share this month’s new release with you.  You can find the August release here.  This card uses the Kawaii Halloween Pals – Frankie Stein digital stamp.  As always this digital image comes in jpeg and png formats AND, this it is also available as a clear stamp!

I had a lot of fun coloring up Frankie with my Copic Markers.  He is ready for some candy!

And I wanted to make sure I gave him a really fun background.  Do you ever look at your scrap paper and decide it’s too pretty to throw away?  I have a whole collection of that.  I always work with a piece of scrap paper under my card and it often catches ink, marker, and stray stamping.  I decided to use this particular piece of scrap paper straight up as a background with the sentiment printed on it.  Sometimes I die cut them or add texture paste through a stencil.  I’ve even been known to keep baby wipes.

Good Things Come in Pairs – Technique Lovers Challenge #858

It’s Monday and that means it’s time to Try a New Technique!   Sabrina has challenged us to try the Burst Through technique.  I love a fun and easy technique and that’s what we’ve got for a challenge today! I was glad that I watched Dina’s video for the tips about curling the paper with a quilling tool. I don’t have a quilling tool, but my tweezers worked great.

I thought this technique would be fun for another Expecting Twins card. This is what happens when a friend has a big life event. I have to make cards not just from me, but from everyone else as well. I’m certainly not complaining about this. It’s very good to be needed. These two mischievous twin bunnies are bursting through the paper with my own computer generated sentiment.  You can right click and save the PNG file to your own computer here:

It’s done using the Bumble Bee font that I got for free at fontbundles.net.

This is going to the great-grandparents, so the inside says “You put the GREAT in great-grandparents.” Here is that sentiment as a PNG file.  You can right click and save this to your own computer as well.

This one is made using the Baby Crab font that I downloaded from The Hungry JPEG.

Babies are such a great reason to celebrate and twin babies are an extra good reason to make cards!  Let me know if you like my computer generated sentiments and if you do use them, please tag me with #thestampingactuary

I’m also entering this card into the following challenges:
