Couldn’t Turn It Down – Color Challenge #910

Karen is our hostess for this week’s Color Challenge and she has chosen Tahitian Tide, Parakeet Party, and Blushing Bride for our colors. And for dessert–music.

Well, I have several music related jokes waiting to be featured on my cards. This was an easy one, because I have this fun boombox stamp. I used my gelli plate to make a background using my best approximations of the colors (I used Tattered Rose, Twisted Citron, and Mermaid Lagoon). I cut and flipped the pieces to give it some added interest and finished off with some music background stamps.

As always, if you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

That’s not the only joke I used so far this week.  My card for this week’s Featured Stamper Challenge also cracked me up.

This week’s Featured Stamper is Craftea19. Her gallery is very fun and I really enjoyed browsing it. This card inspired me because this Snoopy image is one of my favorites and Sabrina was kind enough to stamp off a few for me. I had one left. I also had this other cute car image that either Heather or Joanne sent to me. I can’t remember!

This sentiment describes me perfectly. I created the sentiment using Groundnut font that I downloaded from fontspace.com.  As always, if you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

And here’s the inside:

Always fun for a birthday card.

Daily Challenge Guest Designer!

I’ve been invited to be a guest designer on the Color Challenge team for the month of August!  It’s always so fun to be a part of such a talented team!
This week Barbara had chosen Coastal Cabana, Polished Punk, and Basic Black.

I’ve combined my card with this week’s Technique Lover’s Challenge and made my faux handmade paper by daubing white and the closest thing I had to Coastal Cabana on black cardstock. The instructions said to also daub metallic but I opted for a simple gold rub around the edges. Barbara’s choice of birds for dessert had me looking for a stamp with a bird and flower. I bought this sweet Stampendous Cling Cherry Bird stamp at a clearance sale recently and knew these colors were perfect for it!

But, wait, that’s not all.  I was also invited to be a guest designer on the Sketch Challenge team for the next six months!  I had so much fun the last time I was on this team, I stayed on for a whole year!

A friend of mine asked me to make an 80th birthday card for someone who loves to sew. I didn’t have room on the front of this card for an “80”, but it says “Happy 80th birthday” inside. On the outside, I chose this adorable Penny Black Sew Nice stamp and a quilted look to the background.  I bought this at the same clearance sale as the Cherry Bird.  That was a good day. And isn’t this PTI sentiment just wonderful and perfect for this card?

Best Things in Life – Featured Stamper Challenge #802

This week’s Featured Stamper is mschoener! Maggie is such a delight and I really enjoyed browsing her gallery. I landed on this card because I loved the sentiment.

I’ve also combined with Barbara’s CC900 (CC845) Color Challenge colors with metallic for dessert. The metallic convinced me to foil my sentiment–it doesn’t take much. I finally jumped on the foiling bandwagon and I’m really enjoying the ride. I created the sentiment on my computer, printed it out with my brand new Brother laser printer and foiled it in gold.

I don’t have that sentiment stamp, so I had to create it myself.  If you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

This funny cat was on my to-do list. There is a fish bowl for him to be looking at, but I went with a cupcake to match the sentiment. I’ve colored this chunky cat to match my friend, Liz’s cat. It’s heading her way for her birthday. I realized after I took the picture that I forgot to add the Stickles sprinkles on the cupcake.

Sharon’s Swan Float – Teapot Tuesday #712

It’s Teapot Tuesday and our cards are heading to Sharon in Massachusetts. She has been struggling with a lot of injuries and surgeries, and her friend thought she could use some Teapotter cheer. Pat is our hostess and gave us a very fun challenge to use stitching on our cards.  We’re told that Sharon loves swans, so I decided to make a scene of Sharon relaxing on a swan float. I masked, stamped, and colored the scene using today’s Color Challenge colors. They  were pretty perfect for the image.

Speaking of the Color Challenge–I was honored today to find that my color challenge card from last week was chosen as the favorite from CC886!  It was also made for a Teapot Tuesday and was mailed off to New York last week.

The clouds are a flower paper piercing template that my neighbor gave me.

I used white DMC embroidery floss to stitch the clouds, added the sentiment banner with leftover thread wrapped around and finished off with gel pen and Stickles.

May the Forties by with you – Color Challenge #861

Tuesday’s Color Challenge hosted by Karen Barber was looking for Cajun Craze, Pool Party, and Mossy Meadow.

I approximated those colors by using Distress Oxide inks in Fired Brick, Tumbled Glass, and Peeled Paint.  I needed a birthday card for our friend who just turned 40.  He’s a big guy–almost like wookiee sized.  Everybody calls him Chewie.  So I needed a Star Wars card.  It might be hard to see the colors in my background, but I do love the look of Distress Oxides on black paper.

I sponged a sort of aurora look on the black and then splattered stars across the sky with white acrylic paint.  The Chewie and Han Solo bear digi stamps are so cute, aren’t they?  I got them as a prize from 2 Cute Ink.  Then I was left with the question of how to make this card a 40th birthday card.  So I did some googling and found the perfect sentiment:

I created the sentiment in Microsoft Word and saved it as a PNG file for future use.  If you’d like to use it on your cards just right click on the image and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

If Friends Were Flowers – Teapot Tuesday #668

It’s Teapot Tuesday  and today’s Tea Party is for Jeanne in California. Jeanne is 85 years old and has been an avid stamper for many years. Sadly, her eyesight has deteriorated to the point where she can no longer see well enough to make cards. Because of this, she has begun to give away her extensive collection of stamps. We can sympathize and we are going to shower Jeanne with cards. Given that her eyesight is so poor, it’s suggested we incorporate dimension, textures and bright colors. Jeanne likes flowers, cats, traveling and reading.  I went straight for my Cottage Cutz Garden Cat with Wagon. I think a die cut critter gives nice dimension. I also popped up the scalloped panel. To make the card more touchable I finally used my Fun Flock. And I love it. I need it in every color. I put it on the cat and the hedgehog. I also added some Stickles to the flower centers and Enamel Accents for their faces.

Today is also Color Challenge day.  My substitutions are Seedless Preserves for Rich Razzleberry, Shabby Shutters for Pear Pizazz, and Shaded Lilac for Highland Heather.  Karen challenge us to use flowers for dessert and I’ve got those too!  That card was exhausting to make. So many fiddly bits. And I still have my second one waiting to be assembled!  But now I’m off to buy more Fun Flock.  I wish you could feel it through the computer screen:

Do you know someone that could use some well wishes, encouragement or all around warm fuzzies? Consider nominating them as a guest of honor (a.k.a. destination station) for an upcoming tea party. Send your request to jacqueline via PM or e-mail [email protected]. Include SCS Teaparty Request in the subject line.

Sew Fun – Color Challenge #840

Tuesday is Color Challenge day.  Chris challenged us to use Petal Pink, Flirty Flamingo, and Coastal Cabana on our cards today with the added challenge of stitches.

That mixed sew perfectly with this week’s Waffle Flower Weekly Challenge. The theme is Sew Fun:

I was one of the lucky winners of an earlier Waffle Flower Weekly Challenge and I picked up the coordinating dies to this Heatwave layering stamp set. I was really glad to get these dies since these stamps aren’t very easy to cut with my ScanNCut.  You know that I find it important to order some extra stamps when a company is kind enough to give me free stamps, so be on the lookout for the rest of my new Waffle Flower stamps in future cards!

I matched my colors the best I could using Distress Oxides and then did my best to match to some cardstock. They are sending friendship notes to seniors in nursing homes. And to really stick with the sewing/stitches theme, I did some wonky stitching with my sewing machine.

You may know that my company was recently acquired by Farmers Insurance.  I’m excited to be part of Farmers now and this week at Farmers is “Spring Into Service Week” and we’ve been introduced to the GlamourGals  #MYDEARFRIEND card campaign.  Click on the link to sign up and send notes of your own!

Also, I had a pleasant surprise this morning when I woke up to find that Barbara chose my card as her favorite from last week’s Color Challenge.  It was another Waffle Flower card and was a really fun one to make:
