Sharon’s Swan Float – Teapot Tuesday #712

It’s Teapot Tuesday and our cards are heading to Sharon in Massachusetts. She has been struggling with a lot of injuries and surgeries, and her friend thought she could use some Teapotter cheer. Pat is our hostess and gave us a very fun challenge to use stitching on our cards.  We’re told that Sharon loves swans, so I decided to make a scene of Sharon relaxing on a swan float. I masked, stamped, and colored the scene using today’s Color Challenge colors. They  were pretty perfect for the image.

Speaking of the Color Challenge–I was honored today to find that my color challenge card from last week was chosen as the favorite from CC886!  It was also made for a Teapot Tuesday and was mailed off to New York last week.

The clouds are a flower paper piercing template that my neighbor gave me.

I used white DMC embroidery floss to stitch the clouds, added the sentiment banner with leftover thread wrapped around and finished off with gel pen and Stickles.

Stampers Delights January Sale! – Chibi Spotlight

I’m back with some more inspiration to go along with the HUGE SALE in the Stampers Delights shop!  Today I chose Chibi Get Well Girl.  I colored her with Copics, but also masked off and stamped some patterns onto her blanket and pillow.  Her hair is colored with Y21, E25, E37, and E99 and her skin is colored with E000, E21, and E00.

I felt like trying a new technique, so I went looking through the SCS Tutorials and found the Acrylic Batik technique.  As usual, it was very fun.

First you clear emboss a background on some cardstock and then spread acrylic paint with a credit card or gift card.  I don’t know about you, but I keep all my used gift cards for just such an occasion.

Don’t forget to click below to shop the sale!

And after you shop this fabulous sale, swing by the Stamper Delights Facebook Fan Group and join the Progressive Challenge.  Join each month to receive the monthly image for free!  Click below for details:

More Sugar! – Free For All Challenge #605

Today’s Free for All  Challenge is Halloween cards with monsters. I just bought this stamp from The Cat’s Pajamas clearance sale, so I was excited to use it. This is pretty much a one layer card until I added the sentiment banner. I stamped the zombie and masked a moon around him. Sponged the night sky and the ground. Splattered water and some white paint. Then I colored the zombie and drew in the ground and a bit of a shadow line. As usual, I got my Tim Holtz Grunge stencil out for the craters of the moon. To finish off the edges, I rubbed them with Nuvo mousse.

I saw this zombie joke on Facebook recently, and I thought it would be fun for the inside.  It was certainly fun to design using Courtside and Showcard Gothic fonts.  Here is the PNG if you would also like to use it:

If you’d like to use it on your cards just right click on the image and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

Unicorn Star – Clean and Simple Challenge #645

Today is Clean and Simple Challenge day!  This week’s theme is “You’re a Star”.  I checked my to do list for an image to use.  My crafty resolution in 2019 was to actually go through my stamps, both physical and digital, and use them all.  The easiest way for me to do that was to work my way through my Evernote database from the beginning.  I started my Evernote database in August 2017.  I’m up to August 2019 right now.  I’ve used at least one stamp from every stamp set in my catalog for that time period.  If you’re curious what my Evernote database looks like here is a snapshot:

I have 3,924 items in my Evernote catalog. I catalog my stencils and dies as well.  I’m able to track where everything is stored and tag all my stamps with keywords for easy searching.  I’m proud of myself for sticking with my 2019 crafty resolution for so long.  It really does make it so easy to decide what to make.  I would otherwise be stumped for a star challenge because of too many options.  The point of my story is that I’m excited to have hit the Craftin Desert Divas section of my Evernote.  Craftin Desert Divas closed up shop in August, 2019 and I bought a ton of stamps from the closeout sale.  Obviously, I’ve already used many of the stamps, but some of them have fallen through the cracks.  I’m looking forward to showing them some love in the near future.

Now that I’ve told you all about Evernote, let me tell you why I don’t like it anymore.  The desktop version is fine, so I don’t have any problems searching my catalog on my laptop, or uploading new digital stamps.  But the mobile app has become nearly unusable.  It’s slow to open, slow to search, and slow to open notes.  I just timed myself to open the app, search “unicorn”, find the stamp and click on it to look at it.  It took a full minute with all the lag.  That’s why I’m making the switch to the Color My Life app.

It’s going to take some time to switch over, but I’m working on it a few stamps at a time. What I love about the Color My Life app is that there are so many stamp companies already loaded into their database.  I can just scan the barcode on the back of many of my stamp sets and have most of the information fill in for me.  All that’s left for me to do is add the place it’s stored and my keywords.  The keyword search is so easy, and much quicker than the Evernote app.  What took me over a minute in Evernote takes me under ten seconds in Color My Life.  I can filter my products to see only stamps or dies or stencils, etc. and I can also filter on manufacturer or storage location.  The search function brings up suggestions, so if I type in “fish” it brings up all my tags with “fish”–like jellyfish, pufferfish, it’s o-fish-al, fish you were here, fishing, fishbowl, birthday fishes… My only complaint so far, is that there is no desktop version–although they say it will be a future enhancement.   Even as just the app, it’s well worth the $1.49/month.

Now back to my card.  I printed the unicorn on cardstock and then on copy paper, so I could cut a mask.  I also die cut a star from some thin cardstock to use as a stencil.  Sponged some Mustard Seed through my star stencil, had some fun coloring with my Copics, and of course added Stickles as the finishing touch.

Digi Mojo Midsummer Mushroom Hunt – Stampers Delights

Have you seen the Midsummer Mushroom Hunt that is going on this weekend in the DigiMojo Facebook group? If you’re not a member of the group, make sure you join so you can play along!  There are sure to be lots of great freebies and prizes.  This card is made using the Stampers Delights Fawn image that will be featured over the weekend.  Make sure to stop by and join the Stampers Delights Fan Group.

I really enjoyed coloring up this image with my Copics.  I drew a hill for the faun to sit on and masked both the hill and the faun so I could sponge a golden sky with sun rays.  Then I masked the sky to sponge the hill.  After I finished inking it up, I splattered with water for a more magical look.  After I die cut the paper, I decided that it needed a golden border to really frame the scene.  So I rubbed the edges with Nuvo expanding mousse.

Do Epic Stuff – Ways to Use It Challenge #848

Today’s Ways to Use It Challenge is torn paper.  I always love the look of torn paper masking, so that is my choice for Sabrina’s challenge. I tore some mountains and sponged them and stamped them with the Weathered stamp according to the Faux Tearing Tutorial. Then I tore another paper to sponge the ground and stenciled in some clouds. I just got this stamp set in the mail yesterday. The Cat’s Pajamas has 1/2 off everything right now and you know I can’t resist a sale like that.  I was excited to get this and another graduation stamp set.  I’ve felt like I don’t have any graduation card mojo lately.
