Wants and Needs – Clean and Simple Challenge #673

I’m hosting this week’s CAS Challenge and we’re starting off the new year with some healthy habits–well we’re trying at least. These fun Waffle Flower hippos have their exercise routine down, but they can’t seem to lay off the junk food.

I created this sentiment with the Tired Panda font duo (Caps and Script) that I downloaded from The Hungry JPEG.

If you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

Best Seller – Inspiration Challenge #830

It’s Saturday and time for another Inspiration Challenge. Today’s inspiration site was a little bit overwhelming for me, so I went back to the thumbnails in challenge post and found this lovely canvas:

I was happy for the inspiration to use one of my wildflower fields stamps. I had a different one in my head, but this one was easier to get to. I loved the bright colors against the black background in my inspiration photo. The good thing about using this Waffle Flower Tender Blooms stamp is that it also has individual flowers to stamp, fussy cut, and pop up on the card. It adds just the perfect extra interest along with some Stickles.

Iconic Christmas Elves – Waffle Flower July Monthly Challenge

I was so thrilled to be invited as a guest designer for Waffle Flower’s Christmas in July Challenge.  The theme for this week is Iconic Christmas.  I hope you’ll join us for a chance to win some goodies!

What’s more iconic than the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer TV Special?  It’s my favorite! I’ve colored up my Cookie Time stamp set to look like Hermey and Santa’s other elves.
My A2 Grid Panel Die made it really easy to create a fun scene full of happily baking elves.  There are endless possibilities for this Grid Panel Die.  It’s one of my very favorites!
The Cozy Holiday Sentiments will also be a go-to for my Christmas cards.  It’s such a fun font.
I really hope you’ll join us for this fun challenge.  One winner will win a $50 gift certificate for Waffle Flower Crafts and two honorable mention winners will win $25 gift certificates.  But that’s not all–three lucky winners will win $15 gift certificates! There are three easy ways to enter:

I’m also entering into the BYSH Cardmakers: Christmas in July Hop It’s always good to get that Christmas card stash built early.

Rainbow Welcome – Technique Lovers Challenge #852

Monday is my favorite challenge day – Technique Lovers Challenge. Today Lyn challenged us to combine repeat stamping with Emboss Resist.  I’ve done some extra combining too.  Combined with this month’s Waffle Flower challenge which is to make a rainbow scene.

My rainbow scene is welcoming my friends’ new great granddaughter. Also a great combo with Lee’s Unique Rainbow VSN challenge. I did my repeat stamping using the sentiments from the Congrats set, “Congrats”, “Celebrate”, “Yippee”, etc. Then I sponged on my “unique rainbow” using my favorite Distress Oxide rainbow of Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Broken China, and Seedless Preserves. I used the Autumn Time set to mask and stamp the scene of a sweet sleeping fox in the flower bed.

This card is off to my dear friends Paul and Myrna to congratulate them on the birth of their first great granddaughter.  I’m so excited for them!  I constructed the sentiment using various Paper Smooches and Honey Bee Stamps sentiments.  You know I always make two of each card, but I only needed one great granddaughter card.  I made the second one as a straight forward woodland fox birthday card.  It’s fun to see how different two otherwise nearly identical cards can be.

Vellum Flowers – Featured Stamper Challenge #747

This week’s Featured Stamper is Diane Malcor. What a lovely gallery Diane has! I knew I would find something really fun to CASE and I didn’t make it far before I fell for this card. I know. It’s flowers and I don’t do flowers. But I JUST got this fabulous Tender Blooms stamp set in the mail on Saturday and was so excited to use it!  I stamped it on Neenah in Antique Linen and colored with Spectrum Noirs and Copics. Then I stamped it on the vellum with Versafine Clair Nocturne and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

I am horrible at no-line coloring, but not as bad as it looks here.  I knew I could just scribble on the colors quickly because it was going to be covered up with the vellum.  I think it looks a bit like stained glass.

I framed it with an Avery Elle die and added a sentiment strip using a PTI die and MFT sentiment.

A big thank you to Waffle Flower Crafts for the fun Weekly Challenges and the opportunity to win such fabulous stamps as this one!  This week’s Theme is Use Vellum.

All Dressed Up – Ways To Use It Challenge #845

We are dressing up the gallery for Toni’s Ways to Use It Challenge today. I chose this Bugaboo digi that I’ve never used. I think she looks rather fashionable in her high heels. And I went to the Bugaboo Challenge Blog for some extra inspiration from this week’s Stella Says Sketch Challenge.

To really dress up my card, I stamped these two-step Waffle Flower dresses all over the background.

I find the stamps a little bit difficult to line, but they have a more handstamped look, right?  That’s what I tell myself at least.  I colored the Bugaboo image with my Spectrum Noir and Copic Markers.

Skin: R20, YR02, YR00, E00 | Hair: E23, E25, E29

I was never as skinny as this girl, but I do fondly remember when buying jeans didn’t make me cry.

Paper Pieced Scene – Ways to Use It Challenge #844

Thursdays mean Ways to Use It Challenge.  Cathy’s challenge today is to “Take the Scenic Route.”  You know how much I love to make a scene. I had just the right stamps that I just got with some of my Waffle Flower winnings from a recent Weekly Challenge.  This sweet Summer Time stamp set. I decided today’s scene would be made on a postage stamp and combined with the Waffle Flower Weekly Challenge which is Paper Piecing.

I really took that paper piecing challenge and ran with it. Took out my drawer of small scraps of paper and picked out good pieces for each image.  I really like the sky.  It’s actually cut from a get well card that a friend sent me last year when I had my gallbladder removed.  Never throw anything away.

This was really fun, if a bit fiddly and time-consuming, to make.  So much fussy cutting.  And glue.  And just a bit of Stickles in the flower center to make it sparkle.  Make sure you check out the Waffle Flower Weekly Challenges!  They’re really fun and all the entries have been pretty fabulous.

Sew Fun – Color Challenge #840

Tuesday is Color Challenge day.  Chris challenged us to use Petal Pink, Flirty Flamingo, and Coastal Cabana on our cards today with the added challenge of stitches.

That mixed sew perfectly with this week’s Waffle Flower Weekly Challenge. The theme is Sew Fun:

I was one of the lucky winners of an earlier Waffle Flower Weekly Challenge and I picked up the coordinating dies to this Heatwave layering stamp set. I was really glad to get these dies since these stamps aren’t very easy to cut with my ScanNCut.  You know that I find it important to order some extra stamps when a company is kind enough to give me free stamps, so be on the lookout for the rest of my new Waffle Flower stamps in future cards!

I matched my colors the best I could using Distress Oxides and then did my best to match to some cardstock. They are sending friendship notes to seniors in nursing homes. And to really stick with the sewing/stitches theme, I did some wonky stitching with my sewing machine.

You may know that my company was recently acquired by Farmers Insurance.  I’m excited to be part of Farmers now and this week at Farmers is “Spring Into Service Week” and we’ve been introduced to the GlamourGals  #MYDEARFRIEND card campaign.  Click on the link to sign up and send notes of your own!

Also, I had a pleasant surprise this morning when I woke up to find that Barbara chose my card as her favorite from last week’s Color Challenge.  It was another Waffle Flower card and was a really fun one to make:

Waffle Flower Beach Birthday Party

I’m thinking a beach party is in order for Waffle Flower’s 7th Birthday.

Probably because I just love these mice at the beach.  You can find this set here.  I also needed to make a beach card for my last Virtual Stamp Night challenge.  Me and Desmond had stamped and colored these mice about a month ago, so they were ready to go.  And since we stamped them so long ago–I forgot I had the coordinating dies!  I cut them out with my trusty ScanNCut.

I usually cut then color, but, like I said I colored these a month ago with Desmond.  I had also wanted to play along with this week’s MIX Challenge and today’s Featured Stamper Challenge.  The Featured Stamper today is Francine Vuillèmeaka also known as #Francine.  I chose this card to CASE and started with that sky for the MIX Challenge.

I chose my three favorite Distress Oxide colors – Broken China, Worn Lipstick, and Spiced Marmalade.  And since I was so thrilled with how that sky came out, I decided to blend some ink for the water and sand.

For the water, I blend Broken China and Mermaid Lagoon and sprayed/splattered with water that was mixed with Perfect Pearls for a nice, shimmery ocean.  For the sand, I blended Tea Dye and Antique Linen.  Then I splattered with plain water and splattered with a wet paintbrush dipped in Gathered Twigs.

Today is also the day that the Challenge Your Stash Group posts their monthly cards.  This month Kelly is our hostess and has challenged us to make a card based on a book.  I had Richard Scarry on my mind because I had gotten some comments on Thursday’s card that it was reminiscent of Richard Scarry.  When I was a kid Richard Scarry’s  “Best Word Book Ever” was pretty much my favorite.  I just loved all the cute critters and busy scenes.

So I had fun assembling my busy scene and of course had to finish it off with some sparkle:

Right now there are two Birthday themed Link Parties up on the Waffle Flower Blog.

Virtual Stamp Night!

This past weekend was Virtual Stamp Night! One of my favorite weekends of the year.  The theme was Parks & Recreation which resulted in a lot of fun cards.  I spent two hours each night on Zoom meetings with my dear SCS friends.  Chatting with them always puts me in a good mood!

There was Lisa’s Zoo Animals challenge:

My dad has a T-shirt that says “Every zoo is a petting zoo if you’re brave enough.” I chuckle every time I see him wearing it.  I also chuckle every time I put it on a card.

Then there was Sonja’s Marble Technique challenge:

I got out my Wow! embossing powders and tried the Embossed Marble Background tutorial.

Kelly challenged us to “Trail off the Page”:

And Rebekah’s Swing Challenge:

The swings were always my favorite thing at the playground.

Rita wanted to see flower silhouettes on our cards:

Misti’s challenge was to use some form of transportation on our cards:

I’ve never gone out on a canoe at the park, but we do take our boat out from the boat ramp at the park regularly in the summer.  The trick is–you have to time the tide or you’ll get stranded.  I just love this Avery Elle Camp Wanna-Stamp stamp set!

Melody’s challenge had to do with slides:

Why did they cross the playground? To get to the other slide!  My kids cross the playground often to get to the other slide.

Lee gave us a fun sketch:

This card focused more on the “recreation” part of Parks & Recreation.

And I hosted a “Sports at the Park” challenge:

That’s what my kids said is the most fun thing to do at the park.  Play sports.  Just this month, they have played both baseball and basketball with friends at the park.  This little bear is playing baseball at the park.  But I think he has a black eye.  “I wondered why the ball was getting bigger…then it hit me.”

And I still have six more VSN Challenges to finish.  Stay tuned!
