Polar Bear Polar Bear – MIX Challenge #461

For today’s MIX Challenge, Polly has challenged us to make cards inspired by Eric Carle. My card is based on “Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?”

My kids have that one and “Brown Bear, Brown Bear.” I’ve never read the caterpillar one. Honestly, I chose this book because I was so excited to use my MFT Polar Bear Pals stamps.  They’ve been on my wish list for years, and I finally got them.  For some extra inspiration I checked out the MFT sketch challenge:

and this week’s MFT color challenge:

I was especially excited to actually have the Prestige cardstock in each of these colors.  I chose Eiffel Tower as my card base.  The other colors were approximated using Distress Ink and Copic Markers.  Three fun challenges to combine into one fun Christmas card.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Luna Moth – Watercolor Wednesday #77

It’s Watercolor Wednesday and this week Angie has us painting Luna Moths.  I was sure mine was going to be a disaster. I was so stressed out about painting this moth that I couldn’t begin to think of trying to draw a luna moth this morning, so I went to Google and found a coloring page.  I had the perfect sentiment that I bought a couple years ago from Polka Dot Orchard to go with the moth.  Isn’t it great?

I watched the video and it went so fast that I certainly couldn’t paint along with it, but I took one important thing away from it. As she was painting with white gouache, she said that people say using the white gouache with watercolor is cheating, but she doesn’t care as long as the painting comes out the way she wants. I took that advice and ran with it.  I always learn something on Watercolor Wednesday and this was the best lesson of all.  Here is my luna moth painted with watercolor markers, some white acrylic paint, and some white gel pen details added in to the wings.

I didn’t add nearly as many layers of color as the YouTube artist did, but I am actually very happy with my results.  I think I’ve found my lane on the Watercolor Highway.  This is another card that I’m going to have a hard time parting with.

I’m playing along with the following challenges today:

Stampers Delights November Release – Chibi Tumnus Fawn

Today I’m sharing the Stampers Delights Chibi November release.  You can find the entire September release here.  This card uses the Chibi – Tumnus Fawn digital stamp.  As always this digital image comes in jpeg and png formats AND, this is also available as a clear stamp!

I was so thrilled to see this fun image this month.  It’s Mr. Tumnus!  My favorite!  I printed out the digital version and cut it out with my ScanNCut.  How fun to make a Narnia themed Christmas card.  In my card it might be winter in Narnia, but it’s Christmas, so we know the White Witch’s spell has been lifted.  I used my Copics to color him up to look like the Mr. Tumnus from the recent movie.

I had made the background for a recent MIX challenge to mix some media together to add to the card.  I had decided to mix Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide reinker to my Nuvo Expanding Mousse.  But the mousse was Toasted Almond colored which didn’t mix well with the light blue and just got muddy, so the mousse on the white paper just didn’t work for that card.  I ended up using the mixed mousse on black for that card which you can see here.  This snowy background is perfect for Mr. Tumnus, but he needed one last thing–the Lamp Post.  How lucky that I have a lamp post die just waiting to be used for this card!

Stampers Delights November Release – Anime

It’s release week at Stampers Delights and there are some wonderful images for you to check out this month!  This card is made using the Anime Secret Santa Stamp.  You can find the entire November release here.  As always this digital image comes in jpeg and png formats AND, this is also available as a clear stamp!

Isn’t she lovely?  I printed out the digital version and cut it out with my ScanNCut.  This pretty lady needed some of my prettiest designer paper.  I let the colors of the paper influence my Copic color selection.
