Stampers Delights MerMay – Week 3

All this month Stampers Delights is celebrating Mer-May!  You can find all the fabulous Stampers Delights mermaid images here.  This card uses the Chibi – Marina Mermaid digital stamp.

Isn’t she so fabulous?  And I think all mermaids need a fishy friend.  She was so fun to color with my Copic markers.

I had a foiled background in my drawer that was covered with reddish pink fish.  I could have sponged blue water, but I decided to go with a completely unconventional pink ocean.  And since I had a pink ocean, that freed me up to do a blue mermaid and fish.  It’s so fun to play with magical creatures and imagine extraordinary worlds for them.

Don’t you love the sparkle of the Wink of Stella on her tail?  I also added Stickles to her top and Nuvo Crystal Glaze to make her eyes really shine.  I hope you have a mermazing day.

Baby Tag – Clean and Simple Challenge #690

It’s Monday and this week I’m hosting the Clean and Simple Challenge. My first baby turned 9 last week and we’ve been celebrating his birthday all month.  I also thought it would be fun to follow Mother’s Day with a celebration of all things baby. Let’s see baby cards, baby animals, baby humans…anything baby on your cards. I hope you’ll join us! My card was really quite CAS until I cut it into a tag and went looking for some cute baby DP to put behind it.  It was a tough choice and I think I chose the least CAS option.  Ooops.  Do you think I made the right choice?

And then I reached for an extra piece of ribbon for my bow. Sometimes I just can’t help myself.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Making Waves – TCP May Release

I’m waving hello to May with this month’s TCP release.  I’ve had so much fun with the Make Waves SVGs. As soon as I saw the set, I couldn’t wait to cut out that cute seagull and have him bobbing on the waves.  And after I cut out the seagull and waves, I noticed I had a fabulous stencil left over:

Well, I was also excited to use the Fun in the Sun Digi and I went ahead and spread some Paper Glaze through my freshly cut stencil.  That fun wavy background was just right for this cool cat to float and enjoy her margarita.  I guess ocean scenes always get me thinking of portholes which put me in the mood for some round cards.  I decided to make this into a get well card with one of my favorite retired TCP sentiments.

For my gull card, instead of a porthole, I used the life preserver to frame the seagull.  I cut each piece with my Brother ScanNCut out of Neenah Solar White and sponged on all the colors with Distress Oxide, shading each piece a bit just by using the brush that I usually use for black or gray ink.  I popped up just the top of the bird and let the bottom of the bird rest more in the water.  And of course, I needed to add some glitter to the waves.

Frankly, I love to make seagull cards, because I can use one of my favorite birthday sentiments.  29 again?

The sentiment uses my very own font that I created on calligraphr.com.  If you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image above and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

At Least You Don’t Have Ugly Kids – MIX Challenge #484

Today Angie has challenged us to use pets in the Free For All Challenge. And Janelle has challenged us to make MOMumental cards in the MIX Challenge. Searching my stamp catalog for “Mother’s Day” and “dog” resulted in the perfect stamp for my mother-in-law for Mother’s Day. She was just helping me fold laundry last night while we watched Jeopardy. This fun image needed a funny sentiment, so I went with the classic “No matter what life throws at you…at least you don’t have ugly children.” Her two boys are very handsome.

As always I’m sharing the sentiment here if you’d like to use it.  Just right click on the images below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

To qualify for the MIX challenge, I went digging through my background drawer. It was a tough decision, but I thought this marbly background went well with laundry.  I’m always glad I have my phone handy when I’m trying to choose backgrounds.  I took pictures of so many options before I chose the one I did.

What do you think?  Did I make the right choice?  You know I always make two cards, but I only needed one Mother’s Day card.  For my other card I went with this gelli print that I thought had a bubbly/wallpaper look.

I love an excuse to use my favorite Riley and Company sentiment:

Good times in the craft room this morning.

Stampers Delights – MerMay Week 1

All this month Stampers Delights is celebrating Mer-May!  You can find all the fabulous Stampers Delights mermaid images here.  This card uses the Chibi – Mermaid Delphin digital stamp.

I just love her and her fishy friend–and the punny sentiment!  For a proper underwater scene, I printed her on blue cardstock.  Every so often I enjoy the adventure of coloring on paper that isn’t white.

I ended up with pretty much a one layer card, but I kept layering one more colors and media.  The second layer made all the difference–stenciled water.  My go to ink for stenciling is usually Distress Oxides, but I knew that ink would cover the cute sentiment too much, so I opted for Bahama Blue Memento Ink.

Now it’s definitely a fun underwater scene isn’t it?  But still needs just a bit more–some metallic marker and white gel pen highlights and details.

To finish my card, I die cut and glued to a nice clean white card base and finished off with some sequins where bubbles might be.

Stampers Delights Progressive Challenge – May

It’s May 1st, and it’s time for another Stampers Delights Progressive Challenge.  Head on over to the Stampers Delights Delights Facebook Fan Group and check it out!  Join each month to receive the monthly image for free!  This month is a Kawaii Seahorse with so many fun possibilities!  Click below for details:

I was in the mood for glitter when I sat down to make my card.  OK, I know, when am I not in the mood for glitter?  But I REALLY felt like using glitter.  So I got out my micro glitter and made a fun ocean background for this guy.  I find these glitter backgrounds to be so fun to make.  It’s all about the order of your masks.  First I cut a seaweed shaped mask and put that down, then I added a circle stencil and applied the darker blue glitter.  After I took off the circle stencil, I added the lighter blue glitter.  Here’s a photo from just before I took off the seaweed mask on the second card:

It’s like magic.  After I made my background, I started thinking about what color I wanted for my seahorse.  I almost didn’t color him at all, but decided an orange seahorse would really pop.  If you know me, you know I have a thing for googly eyes. I think they make everything better.  So I got my googly eyes out and started playing.  Often, when I can’t decide which size I want, I take pictures of each option, so I can see them together.

It was a tough choice and I don’t think there was a wrong answer here, but what do you think? Do you think I made the right decision?  Speaking of decisions.  My next decision also required a side by side comparison.  How to arrange the sentiment:

But, you know what?  I realized that I was making two cards and I could use both arrangements of the sentiment.  I do prefer the one on the right, though.

Here’s a close-up of all that sparkle:

OOOH! I love it!  Can’t wait to see what you do with this fun image. Make sure you join in–you’ve got all month!

Nuts About TCP! – April Release

It’s the last day of April and we’re all getting excited for the TCP May release, but I am still nuts about this April release.  I can never resist some cute woodland creatures, so I just had to make a card with the Into the Woods Digi Stamps.  I love the skunk in this set, too, but I wanted to feature the squirrel and his acorns on this one.  And I wanted to feature a lot of acorns.  I love digital stamps because it was so much easy to make a pile of acorns for this card–no masking!  I felt the background needed a pattern, but not too bold a pattern and the Black & White Spring Digi Papers had just the right pattern.  I love the black and white digi paper because my printer doesn’t love color.  Frankly, though, I still love color–but you can print this black and white paper on any color cardstock.  It’s so versatile!

I was originally going to use the cute “Nuts! I forgot!” sentiment from this digital stamp set, but decided to shake things up with a different sentiment.

I was so thrilled with the look of the digital paper printed on the aqua cardstock, that I had to add some to the inside of my card too.  The color complements the color of the acorn so well.

I hope you like this silly card and if you’d like to use this on your cards just right click on the image below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

Kid’s Meal – Clean and Simple Challenge #687

Happy Monday!  It’s time for another Clean and Simple Challenge.  This week Lisa has challenged us to show the inside of our CAS cards. I found this to be a tough challenge, but I’m looking forward to seeing the insides of everyone’s cards. This retired FSJ burger has been on my to do list and I decided what better way to showcase the inside of my card than with a good punchline. I used my very own handwritten font for the sentiment.  Making your own font is so easy at calligraphr.com.   I highly recommend it.  I printed the sentiment on Fabriano Hot Press watercolor paper and stamped the burger above it.  Then I did a very quick watercolor with my Spectrum Aqua markers.

As always I’m sharing the sentiment here if you’d like to use it.  Just right click on the images below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

Where the Heart Is – Free For All Challenge #635

It’s Friday and that means it’s time for a Free 4 All Challenge.  Jeanne has challenged us to make pink backgrounds today. I needed another card for my coworker who just bought a new condo, so I chose this sweet MFT background stamp for my pink background. I sponged Spun Sugar all over the white cardstock and then stenciled hearts to match my sentiment. I computer generated the sentiment because somehow I do not have a stamp that says “Home is where the heart is.” And I always finish off that sentiment with “even if you can’t remember which box you packed it in.”  I think it is so appropriate for someone who just moved to a new place.

As always I’m sharing the sentiment here if you’d like to use it.  Just right click on the images below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.

Happy Admin Day! – April 27, 2022

Next Wednesday is Administrative Professionals Day and I needed two cards for it.  I decided to use both today’s Sketch Challenge and today’s Watercolor Wednesday Challenge to make my cards.  When I saw the sketch, I started thinking of what I could scatter across my card.

And since I needed an Admin Day card, I started thinking of office supplies. I thought paper clips would be fun and thought maybe I could scatter paper clips across the gelli plate and pull a print. So you can see the paper clips scattered across the colorful layer of gel print. But I thought it needed more than that one layer, so I spread on some black paint and threw down six circles to mask so the paper clips would show through in the circles.  As usual when I take out the gelli plate, I got carried away with experiments and multiple prints.  While I waited for my gel prints to dry, I started on my watercolor.  So much art on so little desk.

Look at that gel print with all the dots.  I can’t wait to use that one!  For the WCW challenge, I enjoyed loosely watercoloring, splattering, sprinkling salt and watching it dry.

My favorite part was of course the big reveal of peeling off the tape.  I chose a silhouette stamp instead of doodling and went with “It’s your day” for the sentiment.  It says “Happy Admin Day” on the inside.

I finished off my Sketch Challenge card by stamping some invoices from a PTI stamp set. I kept the paper clip theme by adding a pretty gold paper clip to secure my “Thanks for keeping us together” sentiment onto the gel print. The sentiment is computer generated using “Tired Panda” font and as always I’m sharing it here if you’d like to use it.  Just right click on the image below and save it to your computer.  If you use it, I’d love to see it, so please tag me @cardsbyjennifrann and #thestampingactuary.
